Communication and information
Ensuring free flow of information is stated in the UNESCO constitution as one of the organisation"s main tasks. UNESCO"s Communication and Information Sector has been established in 1990. At the moment UNESCO"s Communication and Information Sector is led by Jānis Kārkliņš. This is the highest position a representative of Latvia has been holding in UNESCO. In Latvia the aim of UNESCO"s Communication and information Programme is ensuring accessibility to qualitative information, protecting documentary heritage and promoting an active knowledge society.
